This week, we invited on another entrepreneur who understands the power of accessible haircare products - Mia Wilson.

Mia is the founder of Innovending, an organization that works to increase access to beauty and self-care products for minority students in Ann Arbor. Having personally experienced the limited selection of products available within walking distance of campus, founders Mia and Rico want students to be able to express themselves to their fullest potential and feel like valued and included members of the Michigan community.

Mia's Experience at the University of Michigan

When Mia was a student at the UoM, black students only made up around 4% of the student body.

Because of this, Mia and many other students found a lack of resources for haircare, including beauty/haircare products and hairstylists who could give their hair the care it needed.

The Value of Business School

The knowledge that you get from a university or business school education can provide that "next level" of information and structure for entrepreneurs.

Being in an environment where you are surrounded by like-minded individuals from different walks of life provides critical perspectives.

Developing Your Business

It can be overwhelming to develop ideas for a business, especially when it comes to business applications.

Having a network of people who can provide support and insight into the process can make a big difference. Staying focused and compartmentalizing the work makes all the difference.

Gatekeeping Success

Whatever your measure of success is, its important to look behind you. Bringing the people who supported you on your journey along in your success is incredibly important.

Don't gatekeep your success; use the tools you've developed and the knowledge you've gained to uplift others.

Virtual Business Addresses

A virtual business address can be much for useful when applying for business credit than using your home address. Even if you work from home, a virtual address can be used as an office space in the future and provide an 'official business address' as you are starting and growing your business.
