Should I be spending money on buying organic shampoo or if I'm eating organic food, can I save money on organic shampoo? Do the ingredients I use on my hair really make that big of a difference? If I’m moisturizing my hair, why am I still seeing dryness?

Hello! It’s the one, the only, it’s Melanie Day here with In Living Curls, and today we’re answering some really great questions with a really great guest. I was joined on this episode by Deepa Deshmukh of Ask Nutritionist Deepa, a plant-based Nutritionist, and educator.

We really deep dive into her knowledge of inner nutrition and how it informs the way our bodies feel and grow, but I think one of the important takeaways this week is that we need to properly fuel our bodies to give them the extra energy necessary for long, strong hair growth. We need to use quality ingredients, in our cooking and in our hair care products, and we need to know what ingredients to avoid because they do more harm than good.

Deepa and I get really into talking about chemicals, things that sound bad but are actually good for us, and things that are marketed as natural and healthy, like tea tree oil, that could actually be causing irritation.

Another thing we really get into is the importance of hydration. A lot of people out there struggling with dry hair are the same people that don’t like the taste of water and don’t drink enough water. Hydration is so vital to our bodies' functioning that when we’re not properly hydrated, of course, our bodies are going to suck the moisture from less vital places like our hair and our skin and use that for more necessary life functions.

I really recommend listening to this week’s episode of In Living Curls in full. You’re going to come out on the other side a better, and more knowledgeable consumer that has a really great idea of what they really need to do to fuel their body and their hair growth.
